Executive Pastor, Dr. Paul Mathenia
1. What is your background and calling into ministry?
Growing up in a pastor’s home where the gospel was preached and lived, God graciously saved me as a young boy. I was called into the ministry at age 22 and became a pastor in 1973. My ministry has spanned 41 years serving churches in Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Maryland, and Arkansas. I have a passion for the truth and seeing God’s children grow deeper in His Word. I received my Master of Divinity from Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, TN, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Oxford Graduate School, in Dayton, TN.
2. What is your favorite scripture?
2 Timothy 4:1-5; Joshua 1:8-9 ever since they were both written in the cover of my preaching Bible that was given to me by my father and pastor.
3. What is your favorite movie?
Hoosiers, a movie about Indiana basketball that could have been written about my hometown of Pinckneyville, IL. I love the emphasis on teamwork, overcoming obstacles, second chances, and succeeding when the odds are against you.
4. What are your currently reading or what are some of your favorite books?
Currently reading: A Theology for the Church by Daniel Akin; Some favorite books: Conviction to Lead, Albert Mohler; Pilgrim’s Progress, John Bunyan; 10 Lies About God, Erwin Lutzer; Preaching with Bold Assurance, Hershael York
5. What are some of your hobbies?
Golf, Cardinals’ Baseball, and Ping-Pong

Allen Levi, Andrew Peterson, and of course, Adrian Mathenia & Grinstead
7. Tell us a little about your family.
Stephanie and I have been happily married for 43 years and God has graced us with three sons. Shawn, his wife Wendy, and our 2 year old granddaughter Ruth live in Memphis, TN. Troy lives in Decatur, IL and is the father of our two grandsons, Noah and Nathan. Adrian and his wife Angeline live in Louisville, KY and works at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary as he attends Boyce College.
